For Decay an apple leather jacket was put into the Black Forest in Germany – an area extensively transformed by human intervention on nature through deforestation and replanted monocultures – and photographed everyday to document its decay. Handed over to natural processes of biodegradation, this highlights hidden material properties and emphasizes what would be impossible had the material used been synthetic vegan leather (plastic) instead. The time spent hand-making the object beforehand, is part of this offering to nature. The daily ritual of frequenting the same part of the woods was repeated until the jacket fully dissolved. The resulting images are combined into a documentary sequence.
